Car recycling: what happens to your vehicle
Car recycling starts with depollution: fuel, oil, coolant, brake fluid and A/C refrigerant are recovered; the battery, tires and catalytic converter are removed. Parts still in good shape (engine, transmission, alternator, doors, rims) go back into circulation as used auto parts. The shell is then shredded and the metals — steel, aluminum, copper — are recycled.
